Subscription payment overview
When a customer pays for a subscription, the connected payment provider automatically charges their card once per billing period.
Subscription payments are currently supported only by WayForPay.
Let's talk about how the next payment date is calculated for monthly subscriptions through WayForPay and what happens if a payment fails.
Next payment date
If a customer successfully pays for a subscription by card through WayForPay, the payment system charges their card on the same day of the month as the first payment. For monthly subscriptions, it charges the card exactly one month after the previous payment, regardless of whether the month has 28, 30, or 31 days.
Suppose a customer makes their first payment on July 15. In this case, WayForPay charges them again on August 15 and then on September 15.
The next payment date appears in the subscriber list. Read also: View digital product subscriptions.
Failed payments
If a subscription payment fails, WayForPay retries the payment the next day. If the second attempt also fails, it skips this payment and charges the card the next month as scheduled.
After a failed payment, WayForPay sends the customer an email notifying them that their subscription payment failed.
To give you an idea, you can also create automations to send notifications via chatbots for renewals, failed payments, or cancellations. Read more: Recurring payment triggers.
