Automating your e-mails
Email automation means drawing up a series of messages in advance that can be automatically sent out to subscribers at predefined times. Such setups are sometimes called autoresponders. They involve such e-mails as:
- a message to confirm e-mail subscription
- a welcome message
- congratulation messages
- a reactivation message
- trigger messages
You can set up a series of automatic messages according to the following criteria:
- Newsletter subscription. A message will be sent after the recipient has subscribed to your newsletter.
- A message was opened. A message will be sent if the previous message was opened.
- A message was not opened. A message will be sent only if the previous message was not opened.
- Clicking on a link. A message will be sent if the user has clicked on a link in the previous message.
- Following up on an earlier message. A letter will be sent after a given period of time has passed since the last letter was sent.
- Birthdays. A message will be sent out on a subscriber’s birthday as predefined.
Use automation to:
Save time. You’ll be able to create your whole series of messages in advance and then just set the time when they will be sent.
Avoid mistakes. When you’re working with a large amount of information, you might make mistakes, and when you’re working with a large number of addresses, you might send a message to the wrong user. Automatic subscriptions will help you avoid these pitfalls.
Increase customer loyalty. Thank subscribers for their orders, ask how the shopping experience went, offer discounts on certain items, and practice cross-selling (advertise another product in addition to the item or service that the customer has bought).
